Jo Malone London, Tom Ford, John Varvatos and Victoria’s Secret each win multiple awards at this year’s event.

June 14, 2017 proved to be a star-studded evening as The Fragrance Foundation honored the industry’s most creative achievements at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in New York City. On the red carpet and inside the reception area and theater, Victoria’s Secret models, actors and luminaries from the industry mingled as talk of scent wafted in the air. Once the ceremony was underway, host Joel McHale entertained the crowd with a series of “smelly” jokes, and praised those in the room for “making the world livable.” He paid tribute to the awards for fragrance, saying, “It’s not like each of the five senses gets their own awards show.” Multiple Grammy, CMA and ACM-winning artist Trisha Yearwood performed a beautiful rendition of “Over the Rainbow.” Designer Carolina Herrera and model Karlie Kloss served as co-chairs for the event. “The Fragrance Foundation Awards is the most important night of the year for the fragrance industry,” said Elizabeth Musmanno, president of The Fragrance Foundation. She added: “Tonight we gather to celebrate the visionaries of our industry.” Musmanno will be vacating her role at the organization as she focuses on new projects. The crowd inside Alice Tully Hall rose for a standing ovation in recognition of her turnaround work at TFF. She responded with gratitude and a sense of humor: “Wow—a standing ovation at Lincoln Center; I never thought I’d see it.” Marc Puig, chairman and CEO of Puig, was recognized as this year’s Hall of Fame Honoree, and designer Carolina Herrera presented him with the award, noting that, “He is responsible for some of the most influential fragrances of our time,” adding, “He leads with integrity, honor and passion.” Patrick Firmenich presented Harry Frémont, master perfumer at Firmenich, with the distinguished Perfumer of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award. He told the crowd that Frémont’s passion for fragrance is evidenced in the fact that he named his three daughters after favorite scents: Estée, Lauren and Joy. Frémont has created a vast number of fragrances over his 30 years in the industry, including CK One, RL Romance and Tuscan Leather. Firmenich added: “Frémont has the mind of an artist and the heart of a gentleman.” Frémont graciously accepted his award, saying, “To be part of the fragrance industry has been my real American dream.” The Estée Lauder Companies was the big winner of the evening, with multiple trophies for their Jo Malone London (3) and Tom Ford (2) brands. Elizabeth Arden scored with two awards for John Varvatos fragrances, and Victoria’s Secret walked away with two. Contenders for Indie Fragrance of the Year were plentiful, with more entries in this category than ever before, according to Musmanno. The winner was Outrageous Simply Divine, by Diana Vreeland Parfums. The package was designed by Fabien Baron. Other award presenters and attendees included: Katie Holmes, Judith Light, Adrian Grenier, John Varvatos, Debi Mazar, Mario Cantone, Anna Chlumsky, Annie Parisse, Tommy Dorfman, Dascha Polanco, Jessica Pimentel, Carly Chaikin, Elsa Hosk, Rose Gilroy and Lais Ribeiro.
